The Collaborative Research Visioning Project
Purpose: The Collaborative Research Visioning Project will provide an assessment of the impact that the partnering of the commercial fishing industry with science has had on research in the Northeast over the past decade. A series of eight public meetings will be held in July and August 2008, so that stakeholders may share how collaboration has impacted them, their communities, and the management of marine resources, and to discuss the future of collaborative research in our region.
Participants: We welcome your attendance. Meeting participants will include all stakeholders of collaborative research, such as fishermen, scientists, fishery managers, industry organizations, conservation groups, etc.
Key Questions: Each meeting will be led by a facilitator and hosted by science and industry members local to each area. The goal will be to obtain input from attendees on the following questions:
- How has collaborative research impacted your personal, business, organizational, research, or management capacity?
- How has collaboration affected communication between scientists, fishermen, and other stakeholders?
- How have collaborative research results been used?
- How can the dissemination, integration, and use of collaborative research information be improved?
- What should the future of collaborative research be? What improvements can be made to how collaborative research is funded and facilitated?
